One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "HARRISBURG.PA," attributed to the John Young Pottery, Harrisburg, PA, circa 1856-1858, ovoid jar with tooled, semi-squared rim and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a double-blossomed tulip plant at the midsection. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. A 3" rough area to rim on reverse, caused in the firing. A small chip to interior of rim and minor, old gray paint residue to exterior of rim, unrelated to any sort of restoration. A smaller in-the-firing flaw below and in-the-firing fissures to proper right handle, as well as below it on reverse. In-the-firing fissures to proper left handle. Some staining to surface. In-the-firing chipping along bottom edge. In-the-firing roughness to surface at base on reverse. Some in-the-firing roughness/surface fissures to underside, not visible on interior. H 10 1/2".
