Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Slip-Trailed Cobalt Decoration, attributed to Abraham Mead, Greenwich, CT, fourth quarter 18th century, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily-tooled shoulder, slightly-flared rim, and open loop handles; decorated on the front and reverse with slip-trailed drape-and-tassel motifs, as well as below each handle with scrolled watch spring motifs and the number "2." Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Heavy chipping to foot. Large, tight X-shaped and spider cracks to bottom half of jar. Areas of staining. H 11 1/4".
