REMMEY / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK," early 19th century, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and open loop handles, decorated on the reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a stylized flower bud flanked by leaves. Front of jar with manganese-highlighted maker's mark. Freehand manganese "1 1/2" below proper left handle and manganese highlights to handle terminals. Proper left handle professionally restored. Chipping around rim. Shallow chipping and base wear. Wear to interior. Some circumferential surface wear to exterior. An in-the-firing contact mark to front and reverse. H 10 1/4".
