Scarce One-Gallon Vertical-Handled Stoneware Jar with Impressed Decoration, Stamped "COMMERAW.S / STONEWARE / N. YORK," Thomas Commeraw, Corlears Hook, Manhattan, NY, circa 1800, ovoid jar with footed base, tooled shoulder, and vertical open handles, decorated on the front and reverse with impressed and cobalt-highlighted drape-and-tassel motifs. Front impressed "COMMERAW.S / STONEWARE" and reverse impressed "N. YORK," both accented in cobalt slip. Proper left handle restored. A 1 1/2" in-the-firing base chip. A 2" in-the-firing surface fissure to interior of rim area, not visible on exterior. H 9 1/2".
