×Very Rare Lidded Stoneware Butter Jar with Charleston, S.C. Advertising, MA origin, mid 19th century, small-sized, cylindrical jar with tooled rim, featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighted advertising, "WORCESTER COUNTY / BUTTER / FOR CHARLESTON S.C. / NECK ICE HOUSE / L.T. POTTER." Includes salt-glazed stoneware lid, possibly original to the jar. Few stoneware pieces with advertising for Charleston, South Carolina, are known, this one being fashioned to pack Worcester County, Massachusetts, butter for sale at the Charleston Neck Ice House at the corner of St. Philips and Vanderhorst Streets. A hairline across underside. A 3 3/4" hairline on underside, extending 1 1/2" onto underside. A 2 1/4" hairline from rim. A few minor base chips. Some staining. A 1 1/8" flake to edge of lid. H (excluding lid) 6 1/8".
