Rare Pair of Manganese-Decorated Redware Dirt Dishes, Alamance County, NC origin, circa 1820-1850, each of thin-walled, flaring form with wavy manganese brushwork descending from the rim and decorating the interior center. Lead-glazed interiors. One bowl is slightly larger. Larger bowl with a thin 3 1/4" crack from rim as well as some wear to rim and interior. Smaller bowl with two rim chips, a thin 1 3/4" line from rim, a thin 1/2" line from rim, additional wear to rim, and a minor in-the-firing ping to interior. Dimensions (of larger bowl): Diam. 10 1/4" x H 2 1/4". Dimensions (of smaller bowl): Diam. 10 1/8" x H 1 7/8".
