Outstanding Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Oversized Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "C.W. BRAUN / BUFFALO .N.Y.," circa 1870, semi-ovoid jug with rounded spout, decorated with a unusually large slip-trailed flower featuring scalloped petals and abstract center to blossom, the petals and leaves embellished with heavy striping. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Among the finest Braun floral-decorated pieces known, featuring excellent color and a design that measures an astounding 13" tall by 12" wide along the curve of the vessel's front. A large, thin Y-shaped crack across underside, extending approximately 1/2" up base on front. A salt drip to reverse. Some minor fry and minor wear to cobalt. H 17".
