Very Rare Glazed Redware Bowl with Two-Color-Slip Star Decoration, Stamped "J L Blaney, / Cookstown, Pa," circa 1825-1854, with rounded sides, footed base, and flattened rim, the lead-glazed surface decorated around the body with four manganese-and-copper-slip star motifs. This design is repeated three times on the interior. Manganese drape motif to rim. Impressed with J L Blaney maker's mark on underside. A beautifully-decorated example and the only piece of Blaney's work that we have seen featuring a star motif. Heavy flaking to interior base area. A 1 1/4" rim chip and wear to rim. Surface cracks to one side. A small flake near base on exterior. H 4" ; Diam. 9 5/8".
