Rare Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Ravenswood, WV Advertising, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, featuring stenciled advertising for "J. E. WILKINSON / DEALER IN / DRY GOODS & GEN. / MERCHANDISE. / RAVENSWOOD. W.VA." Freehand stripes to upper body and base. Freehand "2" flanked by flourishes at base. Two incised X's on reverse. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. Very nice condition. Staining to surface. Light surface wear. A narrow in-the-firing contact mark to side of jar and at base on front. H 11 1/2".
