Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Ravenswood, WV Advertising, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jar with rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "H.L. VANMATRE. / & CO. / DRY GOODS AND / GROCERIES / QUEENS AND STONEWA[RE] / RAVENSWOOD. W. VA." Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. Stenciled tulip motif above and block stenciling to base. A chip and minor nicks to interior of rim. Chips to inner wax sealer rim. Light surface wear. H 8 1/2".
