Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Jackson Courthouse, WV Advertising, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, tapering form with semi-squared "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled cobalt advertising, "T.E. GRAHAM. / DEALER / IN / GENERAL MERCHANDISE / JACKSON C.H.W.VA." Freehand stripe decoration to upper body and base. Stylized stenciled floral motif below advertising. Includes tin lid. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. A thin Y-shaped crack on underside, continuing 3" up base of jar on proper left side. Chips to interior of rim. A few small chips and wear to inner wax sealer rim. Light surface wear including some wear to stenciling. Some staining/mottling to clay. H 10 1/4".
