Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Jackson Courthouse, WV Advertising, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-squared "wax sealer" rim, featuring the stenciled advertising, "A.M. CARSON & CO. / DEALER IN GEN. MERCHAN' / BUTTER, EGGS & POULTRY, / SPECIALTIES. / JACKSON COURTHOUSE / W. VA." Includes tin canning lid. Provenance: From a fifty-year West Virginia collection. A 1 1/2" rim chip to reverse. A 1 1/4" chip and minor nick to inner wax sealer rim. Traces of old red paint to surface. H (excluding lid) 7 7/8".
