Scarce Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Eagle Motif, probably WV origin, circa 1880, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and flattened rim, decorated with a stenciled design of a spread-winged eagle clutching branches. Freehand "2." flanked by flourishes above. Dashed stripe decoration below. An unusual rendering of the region's distinctive stenciled eagle motif, including good coverage of cobalt brushwork across the front. A 2 1/8" rim chip on front. Otherwise excellent condition. H 11 1/4".
