Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt People Decoration, attributed to the Thompson Pottery, Morgantown, WV, circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and grooved lug handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed design of a woman with bonnet standing on a stylized ground. Impressed on one side with distinctive Thompson Pottery three-gallon capacity mark. Unusual two-sided decoration, executed in large scale and featuring excellent color. Provenance: Purchased by the consignor's mother at Ken Farmer Auction Co., Radford, VA, November 23, 1991. Very nice condition with some small flakes to one woman's dress and a very minor, glazed-over base chip. H 13".
