Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pail with Stenciled Anchor Motif, Western PA origin, circa 1880, flare-rimmed pail with tooled shoulder featuring unusual pierced tabs to allow with for a wire bail handle; decorated on the front with a stenciled anchor between freehand stripes. Rare form and stenciled motif. An in-the-firing contact mark near base. A thin 3/4" in-the-firing chip to bottom edge. A minor nick to bottom edge. A chip and minor flake to proper right tab. Two minor chips to piercing on proper left tab. Light bubbling to cobalt. H 6 3/8" ; Diam. 9 1/8".
