Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "J. SWANK & CO. / JOHNSTOWN, PA.," circa 1875, ovoid pitcher with slightly-flared collar and doubly-tooled rim, brush-decorated across the front with a sweeping vine bearing three flower blossoms. Vertical foliate devices to sides of collar and swags flanking the spout. Cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal and floral device to lower terminal. Desirable form and rare size. The first two-gallon Swank pitcher that we have offered. A large Y-shaped crack in underside. Part of this crack extends from top-to-bottom on the reverse and a second part extends 2 1/4" up base on side of pitcher. Some traces of residue inside crack. A minor spout chip. H 13 3/4".
