Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to William Nichols, Poughkeepsie, NY, circa 1823, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a large curved-stem floral motif on the front and reverse. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Restoration to base area. A 2" in-the-firing line to interior of rim, not visible on exterior. A few rim chips, one of which occurred in the firing. Two in-the-firing iron pings near base. Some light staining. H 12 3/8".
