One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Dated 1831, Old Bridge, NJ origin, 1831, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a "fish scale" motif on one side and the date "1831" on the opposing side. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Most of one handle restored. A 1 1/4" surface line from rim, not visible on interior. A few in-the-firing flaws, including a glazed-over base flake and minor in-the-firing base chip. H 11".
