One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird on Branch Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNNGTON VT," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with rounded spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a plump bird with long tail, perched on a branch. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A large area of professional restoration to rounded molding of spout, extending 3/8" below spout molding. A small chip to exterior of spout and minor chipping to interior of spout. Light wear to cobalt. Minor surface wear to shoulder and base on reverse. Minor wear to handle. H 11 1/2".
