Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Star and Freehand Stripe Motifs, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1870, ovoid, narrow-mouthed canning jar with tooled rim, decorated with five stenciled stars at the midsection along with freehand stripes above and below. Rare shape and desirable decoration. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced Illinois collection. Two rim chips. Salt drips. A smooth in-the-firing contact mark to right and left sides of jars. Some staining. H 8 3/4".
