Two Pieces of Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware of Virginia Interest, second half 19th century, a one-and-a-half-gallon stoneware cake crock, attributed to David Parr, Jr., Richmond, VA, circa 1865, featuring cobalt swag decoration and cobalt around handle terminals; together with a two-gallon cylindrical jug, Ohio origin, circa 1880, featuring the stenciled advertising "C. B. SOMERVILLE & CO. / STAUNTON, VA" surrounded by elaborate scrolled stenciling with a stenciled "2" capacity mark above. Cake crock with rim chips and thin crack from rim above one handle. Jug in excellent condition with minor rim nicks. H (of cake crock) 6 1/2" ; Diameter (of cake crock) 10".
