Two-Gallon Stoneware Bowl with Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG, PA", circa 1880, ovoid form with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and flattened rim, decorated with a stenciled design resembling a snowflake. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, handle terminals, and capacity mark. A u-shaped crack extending around left handle. A 4" crack on reverse extending onto most of underside. A 1" chip on reverse. A 1/2" base chip. Areas of staining and other minor imperfections. D (to handles) 13 1/2".
