One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG," PA origin, circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, pierced clay tabs at shoulder with wood and wire bail handle, and applied handle at base on reverse. Brush-decorated with a large horizontal tulip motif on the reverse and a wreath flanking the base of the spout. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals, maker's mark, and capacity mark. Both pierced clay tabs restored with blue paint surrounding them. A few minor chips. Some staining. H 10 1/8".
