Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "D.P. SHENFELDER / READING. PA.," circa 1870, wide, cylindrical crock with applied lug handles and tooled shoulder and rim, brush-decorated with a undulating vine bearing three flower blossoms and graduated leaves. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Professional restoration to reverse, underside, and area of base on proper left side of crock. A chip to proper right handle. Two small chips to interior of rim. Diam. 11 5/8" ; H 8".
