Four-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped Twice "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, ovoid jar with semi-squared rim and ribbed lug handles, brush-decorated with two long, horizontal stems bearing graduated leaves and three Germanic tulips embellished with dotted stamens Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Impressed with John Bell maker's mark below each handle. Very large reglued section to underside/base area with two thin cracks extending off from it. An additional crack on underside extending onto base. A 1 1/2" surface crack to interior of rim, not visible on exterior. Rim is out-of-round. H 12 5/8".
