Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, attributed to Brown Pottery, Arden, NC, circa 1930, ovoid jug with tall spout, decorated with a hand-modeled and applied clay face including bulging eyes placed within flattened lids, eyebrows, C-scroll ears, finely-sculpted nose with carved nostrils, and open mouth with broken china teeth. Incised details to eyebrows and eyelids. Piercings to center of eyes and ears. Surface covered in a mottled brown Albany slip glaze. Provenance: Recently surfaced in Canada. Three teeth broken off. Two chips to one ear. H 6 1/2".
