Glazed Stoneware Face Jug with Applied Lizard, Inscribed "Chester Hewell / CSA 1997," Gillsville, GA origin, 1997, ovoid jug with hand-modeled and applied clay face including kaolin eyes with cobalt pupils, eyebrows, pronounced nose, rounded ears, chin, and mouth with broken china teeth. Applied lizard on forehead. Surface covered in a dark-brown glaze with rutile run descending from base of handle. Underside incised with Chester Hewell signature and date. Provenance: Carl and Marian Mullis Collection. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 10 1/4".
