Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, attributed to Thomas Wilbur, Zanesville Area, Ohio, second quarter 19th century, ovoid jar with flattened rim and applied lug handles, decorated with an incised and cobalt-highlighted floral motif featuring a circular blossom emanating from a group of leaves. Cobalt highlight to capacity mark. Rim chips. A diagonal 7" crack to reverse/proper left side. A small chip to proper left handle. Wear to both handles. A minor surface chip to shoulder on front. A 3" x 1 3/4" semi-circular surface line at base, not visible on interior. A 3" Y-shaped line to underside, not visible on interior. An in-the-firing ping to interior shoulder. Minor chipping to base. H 13".
