Exceptional Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Twig-Form Handle, Dated "1889 / Jan. 1," OH origin, 1889, ovoid pitcher with flared collar and heavily-incised rustic surface, the handle in the form of a diagonal twig held in place by two other twigs at the upper terminal and a forked twig at the lower terminal. This highly-sculptural handle construction resembles a stick figure grasping the collar of the pitcher. Two additional small applied twigs decorate the pitcher's base. Salt-glazed surface with cobalt spot and stripe decoration throughout. Underside incised with the date, "1889 / Oct. 1." Outstanding form. Provenance: Al Marzorini Collection; Crocker Farm, Inc., August 5, 2022. Excellent condition with two small rim chips. H 8 1/4".
