Fine Stoneware Harvest Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, OH origin, circa 1870, ovoid form with footed base, applied wide and narrow pouring spouts, and squared handle with ribbed top; decorated on the front and reverse long spotted designs resembling corn (possibly denoting corn whisky), forming an X on the top of the jug. Further decorated below each spout and on the sides with a triangular "grapes" motif. Stripe decoration to spouts and handle and highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: Al Marzorini Collection. Originally purchased in the 1970s at an auction in the Meadows of the Dan area of Virginia; Leland Little Auctions, Sept. 18, 2010, lot 311; The Important Collection of H. Marshall Goodman Jr., Jeffrey S. Evans and Associates, Sept. 23, 2023, lot 1056. Very nice condition. An old filled chip to smaller spout and minor wear to smaller spout. Wear to handle. A circular line around top of jug, possibly in-the-making. H 13 1/2".
