Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BELL / WAYNESBORO'," PA origin, circa 1850-1880, ovoid jar with squared rim, the shoulder brush-decorated with eight swags applied over a slip coating, along with a lesser-seen treatment of wavy combed incising. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. A semi-circular surface line along underside, including a line extending off from it and ascending approximately 1 1/2" up base, all of which is not visible on interior. Some in-the-making roughness to surface. H 8 1/8".
