Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Inscribed "AG," Austin Graves, OH origin, mid 19th century, ovoid jar with flared collar, brush-decorated with the initials, "AG," below a freehand "2," flanked by a willow tree and flower. Reverse with additional stylized floral motif. The "AG" on this jar refers to the name, Austin Graves, based on the survival of a related jar bearing these initials and that name incised in full. Several shallow rim chips. A 3" vertical line at base, continuing across underside and 2" up reverse. Some typical firing flaws to surface. H 11 3/4".
