Possibly Unique Copper-Glazed Redware Mug with Diana Motif, Stamped "J. BELL," Waynesboro, PA origin, circa 1840, thin-walled, cylindrical mug with footed base and tooled rim, decorated on the left and right sides with applied, molded decoration of Diana the Huntress in classical garb with bow and greyhound. Exterior surface covered in a bright-green lead and copper glaze. Interior surface covered in a clear lead glaze over a bright-yellow ground. Featuring exceptional color, a desirable early-period maker's mark, and a molded motif unknown to us outside of this piece, this lot is among the finest John Bell mugs that we have ever offered. Excellent condition with light rim wear and minor wear to handle and base. H 3 1/2" ; Diam. (at base) 3 7/8".
