Extremely Rare Half-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXANDRIA, D.C.," circa 1840, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, brush-decorated with circumferential drapes and chain links above swag motifs. Impressed with extremely rare, "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXANDRIA, D.C.," maker's mark at shoulder, along with a half-gallon capacity mark. Only a small number of pieces bearing this stamp, believed to be Milburn's first maker's mark, are known. Base chips. Surface wear to shoulder and rim. A small filled hole at shoulder. H 7 5/8".
