Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "R. BUTT / W City DC," circa 1835, ovoid jar footed base, squared rim, and arched tab handles, brush-decorated on the front and reverse with a large horizontal tulip motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Two base chips measuring 1 3/4" and 1 1/2", along with other small base chips. An in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder on the front two in-the-firing contact marks to reverse. A small chip to interior of rim and a minor chip to exterior of rim. Some light surface wear. H 13 1/2".
