One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG," PA origin, circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, pierced clay tabs at shoulder with wood and wire bail handle, and applied handle at base on reverse. Brush-decorated with a large horizontal tulip motif on the reverse and a wreath flanking the base of the spout. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals, applied clay ears, and maker's mark. Includes tin spout cover and lid. A 4" hairline from rim on reverse. A 2 1/2" hairline from rim on front. A few minor nicks to interior of rim. Some rust staining to rim of pail and end of spout. Spout cover with corrosion to base and some expected rust to both. H 10".
