Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG PA," circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, pierced clay tabs at the shoulder, and handle at base on reverse, brush-decorated with a large horizontal tulip across the reverse and a wreath surrounding the base of the spout. Cobalt highlights to clay tabs and handle terminals. A thin 2 1/2" crack from rim on reverse. A few in-the-firing contact marks to base area. Some spots of fry to cobalt. Areas of light staining. H 8 3/4".
