Very Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Inscribed "E.R.J.," Evan R. Jones, Pittston, PA, circa 1875, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a graduated blossom extending from a leafy stem. Decorated with the highly unusual initialed signature, "E.R.J." at shoulder, referring to well-known Pittston, Pennsylvania, potter, Evan R. Jones. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent condition with minor staining and minor traces of white paint. H 7 3/4".
