Rare and Fine Miniature Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "D Ack," Mooresburg, PA, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with applied lug handles and tooling to shoulder and rim, brush-decorated with a diagonal floral motif featuring an oval, open-centered blossom. Reverse decorated with a double-leafed foliate motif. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. A superbly-crafted miniature, following the form and details of a standard-sized crock. Featuring excellent color and two-sided decoration, this work is possibly the finest Ack miniature known. Its import is enhanced by its illustration in Jeanette Lasansky's iconic book, Made of Mud: Stoneware Potteries in Central Pennsylvania, 1834-1929, the first resource written on the subject. Literature: Illustrated in Lasansky, pg. 36. Very nice condition with a small rim chip and a few minor rim nicks. H 2 3/4" ; Diam. (at rim) 3 3/8".
