Possibly Unique Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Inscribed "Ack's Best," Stamped "D Ack / Mooresburg Pa," circa 1875, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flattened rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with inscription, "Ack's Best," with flourish below. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. An outstanding example of Central Pennsylvania stoneware boldly advertising the quality of ware this pottery produced. Two rim chips, measuring 1 5/8" and 1". A 1 3/8" chipped section to proper right handle. Small chips to proper left handle. Wear to interior of rim. A smooth 5/8" base chip, possibly in-the-making. A 3/4" line on underside continuing 2 3/4" up reverse. Minor staining. H 9 1/4".
