One-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Grapes Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG . PA," circa 1865, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, brush-decorated with a cluster of eight grapes hanging from a vine, flanked by a looping tendril and leaf. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and handle terminals. Includes salt-glazed lid, possibly original to the jar. Desirable decoration and size. Small rim chips. Chips and wear to inner rim for lid. Some fry to cobalt. Lid with a chip to knob, a nick to edge, and a glazed-over chip to underside. H 9 1/4".
