Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG," PA origin, circa 1865, ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, brush-decorated with tulip plant featuring four blossoms emanating from a series of leaves, flanking cross-hatched brushwork. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. A large spout chip. A few minor chips to interior of spout. Surface staining. A minor in-the-firing base chip. A thin area of light surface wear to reverse. H 15 1/2".
