Rare and Fine Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Floral Decoration, Stamped "T.H. WILLSON & CO / HARRISBURG. PA," circa 1852-1855, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and ribbed lug handles, brush-decorated with a large flowering plant bearing three blossoms composed of a circular petals embellished with star-like rays. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, capacity mark, and handle terminals. Provenance: From a recently-surfaced, fifty-plus-year collection. Excellent condition with only minor flaws. Light staining to surface. An in-the-firing separation to underside of proper left handle. Minor crazing to underside. Some very minor in-the-firing flaws to surface. Two small spots of gray paint to reverse. H 15 1/4".
