Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "JOHN BURGER. / ROCHESTER," NY State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a flower with cross-hatched petals and striped leaves. Slip-trailed "2" to shoulder. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. An in-the-firing contact mark to right of decoration. A small in-the-firing ping to rim. Two minor in-the-firing surface lines at base on reverse, not visible on interior. Some staining. H 10 1/2".
