Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "N CLARK JR / ATHENS N Y," mid 19th century, tapering jar with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a brushed design of a crested bird perched on a stump flanked by shrubs. Spotted and brushed feather details to body. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Chips to inner rim for lid. Interior of rim with a minor chip and a small area of wear. Chips and a 1 1/4" line to proper left handle. A small filled chip and minor nick to proper right handle. A few minor chips to shoulder molding. Water glass staining to interior and light staining to exterior. H 12 1/8".
