Rare Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Lid, Dated 1862, Northeastern U.S. origin, 1862, small-sized lid featuring the slip-trailed, underscored date, "1862," flanked by swags, all surrounded by a wavy border. An original pierced vent hole in top suggests this lid was made for a teapot. Excellent, essentially as-made condition, the underside with raised in-the-firing air pocket including a faint Y-shaped line. Diam. 6 1/2".
