Scarce One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Chicken Pecking Corn Decoration, Stamped "HAXSTUN & CO. / FORT EDWARD, N. Y.," circa 1875, cylindrical jug with tapered spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a chicken pecking kernels of corn from a stylized, shrubbed ground. Cobalt accent to maker's mark. A difficult-to-find decoration on this size. A Y-shaped crack on underside, continuing 7 1/8" up reverse. Some exfoliation to base area on reverse. A small base chip on reverse. Small amounts of blue crayon added to decoration. H 11 1/2".
