Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Paddletail Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON / UTICA, N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled body, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a crested bird with paddle-shaped tail, perched on a vine. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Exceptional size to vessel for this iconic White family motif. Rim and base chips. Two minuscule nicks to proper right handle. Some staining. H 7".
