Exceptional One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Rooster Decoration, Stamped "WHITE'S UTICA," NY State origin, circa 1865, bowl-shaped jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a rooster standing on a stylized, shrubbed ground. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Featuring a desirable design and maker, this work is made exceptional by the small size of the vessel, rarely seen bearing this motif. A restored hole in underside. Otherwise excellent condition. Diam. 8 3/4" ; H 7 1/2".
