Rare Three-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt and Incised Bird and Floral Decoration, Stamped "EDMANDS & CO," Charlestown, MA, third quarter 19th century, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a boldly-brushed design of a bird perched on a flowering stem bearing three different blossoms. Incised eye to bird, fan-shaped detail to upper blossom, and dotted details to lower blossom. Among the finest Edmands birds that we have offered. A 2 1/4" rim chip. A 4" line from rim on far right side of crock's front. An L-shaped crack descending 5" from rim on reverse. A 4" inverted Y-shaped crack from rim on reverse. Three chips to interior of rim. Some staining and brown residue to surface. H 10 1/2".
